STORYBOARD FOR OUR PRELIMINARY TASK

For this task we had to create a fluid and continuous piece of filming including successful use of camera work, editing, and storyboarding. Before filming our preliminary task we had to plan the storyline, work out the timings of each piece of filming, decide on speech throughout, and work out our camera angles to fit with the 180 degree rule. We also had to ensure that our short film contained all of the necessary techniques such as a 'shot reverse shot', a 'long shot', a 'continuous shot', a 'close up shot' and to obey the 180 degree rule, we did this whilst still consciously trying to create a fluid piece of filming with smooth cuts between shots. After completing the storyboard we then filmed each section as planned, however we found that it was difficult to stick to the timings we had given each shot because when editing we had to cut a lot more than anticipated to keep the film looking continuous. We also changed the scrip slightly so that the speech sounded more natural and conversational so it was challenging to stick directly to the script. We stuck to all camera angels and shot arrangements as planned in our storyboard and this worked successfully in our final outcome. In each individual box we have drawn out what the action will look like on the camera so we can refer closely to this when filming, we have also written whether it will be an interior or exterior piece of filming, all of our film takes place inside a building so they are all interior. underneath each box we have also labelled what action will be taking place, this is so we can remind ourselves and the actor when it comes to filming, we have also indicated which transition we will be using between each shot and through the piece we have only used cuts to ensure the film remains as fluid and contains as natural action as possible. throughout the pice we have used an array of shot types such as 'long shots', 'medium shots', 'close up shots', 'continuous shots' and a 'shot reverse shot' when speech takes place at the end of the film.
